You have received a notice from the IND. The notice states that your residence document, statelessness document or EU registration card is ready. Make an appointment to pick up your document. 

What to bring to your appointment

• Your valid passport (or other travel document). This applies to every person who has an appointment
• The email confirming your appointment (with appointment code)
• Your residence document. If your residence document has been stolen or lost, bring the police report instead. This applies to every person who has an appointment
• Your debit card, if you have received a letter stating that you still need to pay. Please note: you can only pay by debit card at the IND service desk

Good to know: 

• Children under 18 must collect their document together with a parent or legal representative
• Is someone accompanying you to the appointment? That person must bring a valid form of identification

Appointment to collect your document

Make an appointment to collect your document.

You have received a letter from the IND. The letter states that we need your photo, signature and fingerprints for your residence document. These details are called ‘biometrics’. Make an appointment to provide your biometrics.

What to bring to your appointment

• Your valid passport (or other travel document). This applies to every person who has an appointment
• The email confirming your appointment (with appointment code)
• Your residence document. If your residence document has been stolen or lost, bring the police report instead. This applies to every person who has an appointment

Good to know: 

• Applying for a residence endorsement sticker is free of charge
• If you are making an appointment for a child under 18, the child and a parent or legal guardian must both be present
• Is someone accompanying you to the appointment? That person must bring a valid form of identification

Appropriate clothing for your photo

We kindly ask you not to wear completely white or light grey clothing. The passport photo is taken against a light grey background. If you wear light clothing, the photo may turn out wrong.

You may keep your head covered for religious or philosophical reasons. The head covering must not cover your face. We also recommend wearing a plain colored head covering that is not light gray. If your head covering has reflective material or busy patterns, the photo may turn out wrong.

A residence endorsement is proof that you are allowed to await your procedure in the Netherlands. The IND places this sticker in your passport.

Situations in which you can apply for a residence endorsement

• Your current residence document has expired, or will expire within 4 weeks. Or your current residence endorsement sticker expires within 2 weeks
• You have submitted one of the applications listed below. You have received a letter from the IND confirming receipt of your application. You have not yet received a decision or a new residence document of one of the following applications:
  • First regular residence permit without a provisional residence permit (MVV)
  • Residence with an EU citizen (verification against EU law)
  • Residence with a Dutch EU citizen (verification against EU law)
  • Residence with your minor Dutch child (Chavez)
  • Extension of your regular residence permit
  • Other regular residence permit (change in purpose of stay)
  • First application for a permanent regular residence permit
  • First application for permanent residency for Union citizens
  • First application for residence permit for long-term EU residents
• You have travelled to the Netherlands with a valid provisional residence permit (MVV). But your regular residence document is not ready yet
• You registered an objection or appeal in an application procedure for a regular residence permit. And you are allowed to await the procedure in the Netherlands
• You applied for a provisional ruling and you are allowed to await the procedure in the Netherlands
• You are staying in the Netherlands within the context of EU intra-mobility. You want to apply for a first residence endorsement sticker. Or you want to invalidate the sticker you received earlier

Is your situation not listed? Then you have to call the IND.

Decision made during appointment

The IND will decide on your application immediately during the appointment. If the IND approves your application, the residence endorsement sticker will be placed in your passport immediately. 

You are going on a trip abroad, but you temporarily do not have a valid residence permit. For the return trip to the Netherlands, you need a return visa (TKV).

Do you still have a valid residence permit when you travel back to the Netherlands? Then you do not need a return visa.

Situations in which you can apply for a return visa

• You have a nationality that requires a visa for the Schengen area. First go to Netherlandsworldwide.nl and check whether or not you need a visa
• You have submitted one of the applications listed below. And you have not yet received a decision or a new residence document
  • Residence with an EU citizen (verification against EU law)
  • Residence with a Dutch EU citizen (verification against EU law)
  • Residence with your minor Dutch child (Chavez)
  • First application for residence permit for a child born in the Netherlands
  • Extension of your residence permit
  • Renewal of the residence document for your permanent residence permit
  • Other regular residence permit (change the reason for your stay in the Netherlands)
  • First application for a permanent regular residence permit
  • Replacement because your residence document has been lost or stolen. You must have a police report of the loss or theft
  • Replacement because your residence document is damaged or contains incorrect information. You must show your residence document
  • Your EU assessment application has been rejected. You have submitted an objection or appeal and you are allowed to wait for the decision in the Netherlands
  • You are in another situation and have an urgent reason to travel abroad

Appointment for a return visa

A return visa is valid for up to 3 months and is valid from the date of your appointment. Do not make your appointment more than 2 weeks before you leave for another country.

Decision on application

The IND usually decides on your application immediately during the appointment. If the IND approves your application, the return visa will be placed in your passport immediately.

Is the IND not able to decide on your application immediately because more research is needed? Then you will receive a letter with the decision within 2 weeks after your appointment.
